Longtime Bartlett Barbers Launch New Shop on Whitten Road

Two veteran Bartlett barbers with more than a decade of experience working side by side have struck out on their own, opening The Barber Shop at 2880 Whitten Road earlier this month.

Owners Lee Meeks and Mike Miskelly, both well-known in the community for their years at Stage Road Barber Shop just a block away, opened the doors to their new venture on Sept. 2. Meeks, a lifelong Ellendale resident with 45 years behind the chair, says the decision to open their own shop was driven by a desire for independence and a more traditional barbershop experience.

“This is more of an old-timey-type barber shop,” Meeks said. “We do straight-razor shaves.”

The pair transformed a vacant former salon into a welcoming space filled with vintage touches — including a new candy-striped barber pole and classic barbershop décor. They handled nearly all the renovations themselves, and Bartlett High School art students will help paint the interior as part of an upcoming art project.

The new shop is located across Stage Road from the Union Depot mixed-use development, positioning it to benefit from future growth in the area. “We looked all over Bartlett, and this is the place that presented itself,” Meeks said.

The Barber Shop offers classic services like straight-razor shaves and modern styles, plus a few unique touches — including vacuum-equipped clippers to keep customers cleaner during cuts. Barber Patty Zachery, another Stage Road alum, handles the shop’s straight-razor shaves and even sells her handmade pottery on-site.

Open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, The Barber Shop blends vintage charm with modern service — and adds another locally owned small business to Bartlett’s growing commercial landscape.
