Many communities have restrictions on home-based businesses. Check with the local planning office in the city you plan to do business to determine if your business type is allowed in that specific area.

Most local governments (city & county) require you obtain a business license if you plan to do business within their jurisdiction. You may not officially begin your business until you have registered with the local jurisdictions. Sole Proprietorships and basic Partnerships may only require a business license from your local jurisdiction. Corporations, Limited Liability Corporations and other types of corporations must be registered through the State of Tennessee's Secretary of State Office.
