Taco Prime Brings Authentic Mexican Flavors — and New Momentum — to Bartlett’s U.S. 64 Corridor

Bartlett’s dining scene just got a flavorful boost. Taco Prime, a new upscale taqueria from local entrepreneurs Ingrid and Sergio Vilchis, has officially opened its doors on U.S. 64 across from Wolfchase Galleria — and it’s more than just another taco spot. It’s a story of family, tradition, and the growing momentum of small business investment in one of Bartlett’s busiest commercial corridors.

The Vilchises, who moved to the Memphis area in the late 1990s, dreamed for years of creating a restaurant that reflected the flavors they grew up with. Drawing on Sergio’s childhood experience working in his family’s taquerias in Mexico and Ingrid’s Salvadoran heritage, they set out to elevate the local taco scene with fresh, hand-crafted ingredients and premium meats.

Their menu reflects that ambition: tacos filled with ribeye, top sirloin, shrimp, or fish share the spotlight with traditional asada and chicken. Signature items like the Tacos Prime — ribeye layered with avocado and marinated red onions — showcase the attention to detail. Even the tortillas, guacamole, and pico de gallo are made fresh in-house every day.

The couple transformed a former insurance office into a 1,600-square-foot restaurant space, complete with new kitchen equipment and a fresh interior. Their decision to locate on U.S. 64 was a strategic one — tapping into one of Bartlett’s highest-traffic areas while contributing to its ongoing revitalization. If this first restaurant succeeds, they hope to grow Taco Prime into a local brand with additional locations.

And they’re not alone. Just a few doors down, Maya Jewelry and Watch Master Repairs is preparing to open after relocating from Wolfchase Galleria, adding more retail energy to the strip.

City leaders say this kind of small business activity is exactly what Bartlett needs. “We’ve worked hard to make it easier for small businesses to invest and grow here,” Alderman Robert Griffin said recently. With infrastructure improvements like sewer capacity now in place, the city expects more commercial projects to follow.

Taco Prime is now open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. For Bartlett, it’s another sign that the U.S. 64 corridor is heating up — one authentic taco at a time.
